Jardiance® (empagliflozin) is a prescription medication used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established heart disease. It belongs to a class of drugs known as SGLT2 inhibitors, which work by helping the kidneys remove excess glucose from the body through urine. Jardiance® is also approved to reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with or without diabetes. It is typically taken once daily in tablet form and may be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications.
